Just inside the arch is a brick wall with a pair of decorative arched windows near the top - all that remains of what is believed to have been the quarter's synagogue. Up the winding stairway just inside the arch is the Rua da Judiaría, the central artery of the former Jewish quarter. The typical medieval houses have a narrow door that was the family entrance and a wider one that often housed the place of business, such as a shop or workshop.

During the morning, you'll indulge in a private visit, followed by a lectured wine tasting, to the newest of the British-owned Port companies, founded in 1981 by Johnny Graham.

Churchill's Port grew from John Graham's desire to continue his family's Port making tradition by setting up a company to produce his own, individual style of wine. Douro Valley Wine Estate & River Cruise - Classic (8 Hours) BEST SELLER

Meet your private chauffeur at the port. Today, venture into an exclusive epicurean experience through the pristine and charming port wine region, the Douro Valley.

The Region of Douro starts approximately one hundred kilometers east of Porto, to the border with Spain. It covers approximately 250,000 hectares, of which 40,000 are under vine. The Port vineyards are planted along the steep, spectacular hills overlooking the River Douro and its tributaries. Generations of men and women have toiled tirelessly to build terraces into the rock face that created an impressive landscape of unequalled beauty where stifling hot, dry summers are followed by harsh, wet winters. It is the region’s characteristic poor soil and uncompromising Mediterranean-like climate which produces one of the most sought-after wines in the world, Port.

Your journey begins with a stop on a charming family-owned wine estate, one of the best-known properties in the Douro and also one of the first to bottle wines with its own brand

This Wine Estate is mentioned for the first time in a document dated April 1738, where it is referred to as "the Pacheca" because it was owned by D. Mariana Pacheco Pereira. However, it was only in 1903 that Dom José Freire de Serpa Pimentel decided to develop his interest in oenology, bought the property and began to devote to the winemaking business.

You will be warmly received by the owner of the estate. Enjoy a private tour through the cellars, followed by lectured wine tasting. Lunch (not included) will be served in the charming restaurant of the wine estate. The building, construction of the 18th century, is decorated in an authentic style, yet with modern conveniences, and offers a gourmet cuisine based on local products, with panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.

After lunch, enjoy a private river cruise aboard a typical Rabelo boat.

Until the end of the 19th century, the Douro River was the main access route to the interior regions and the only means of importing foreign products. A difficult river and risky to navigate, there was only one type of boat that could overcome its natural obstacles, the Rabelo Boat.

While tasting the Port, and with the help of a local guide, discover the green vineyards, stratified culture and stunning natural beauty of the Douro Valley and marvel yourself with the beautiful slopes of the Douro Valley, heavily planted with vines, which offers breathtaking views of one of the most impressive man-shaped landscapes in the world.

Find your driver on the pier and enjoy a relaxed drive back to the port.

Includes: Transportation - Full-Day at Disposal, as per itinerary, by Deluxe Vehicle, with English Speaking Fluent Driver (6-8 Hours); Private Visit to selected Wine Estate followed by Lectured Wine Tasting; Private River Cruise aboard a Typical Rabelo Boat, with Wines and Regional Snacks, assisted by Local Guide.
